A couple weeks ago I posted about an EarthBound fan film in the works, but for various reasons there was a bit of confusion because the demo reel wasn’t EarthBound-related. They’ve since released an EarthBound-related teaser video, check it out: If you want to help them out, see here! ...Read More »

EarthBound fan Galena wrote a screenplay for an adaptation of EarthBound. I have yet to read through it myself, but if you’re interested, check it out here. I always find it cool when fans of anything are inspired enough to put this much work into something ...Read More »

As many probably know by now, EarthBound/MOTHER series creator Shigesato Itoi voiced a character in one of the most classic animes of all time, My Neighbor Totoro / Tonari no Totoro. I’d never seen a Youtube clip isolating just him, at least until now. So here you go, Itoi the voice actor! As we already looked at before, Itoi and Studio Ghibli (the super-famous studio that made Totoro) go w...Read More »

A recent Japanese polling site asked the question, “Which game series would you like to see get turned into a Hollywood movie?” The results were as follows: Dragon Quest Takeshi’s Challenge Metal Gear Tetris Spelunker Legend of Zelda MOTHER Phoenix Wright The Portopia Serial Murder Case Grand Theft Auto I dunno, some of those things seem pretty weird to me (Tetris?) but itR...Read More »

A neat tidbit of info, courtesy of Yannick! Apparently, the really creepy Love Walker enemy in MOTHER 3 (see here) is based on the poster for an old movie called “Cabaret“. That enemy always creeped me out, so that poster would make me more likely to vomit in terror than anything else. BTW, lame tip: if you haven’t yet, try getting it to turn around in battle. ...Read More »

Since today is Saint Patrick’s Day, let’s do something a little different! A good while back, my girlfriend and I decided for some bizarre reason to watch the movie Leprechaun. As the movie started, we noticed things that really reminded us of EarthBound stuff. As the movie went along, it sort of turned into a “hey, that’s EarthBoundy too!” game. When all was said and...Read More »

Many probably know by now that Giygas in EarthBound was partly inspired by a really old murder mystery movie. I even tracked down a copy and wrote a huge thing about it here. This afternoon, I finally got around to making a short video of stuff from the movie, mostly THE scene and some stuff that happens after. It’s like a super quick version of the movie: Title screen, movie climax, end scr...Read More »

After some delays writing this up, I now present to you, faithful reader, a rundown of the movie that traumatized Shigesato Itoi and served as inspiration for Giygas, the main villain and final boss in EarthBound. If you want to jump straight to the part that he vaguely remembers, click here. Otherwise, read on and enjoy the quick summary of everything. Jan. 20, 2009 Update: I posted a video of th...Read More »

Today’s video is a music video of “The Knit Cap Man”, a song written by Shigesato Itoi and performed by the Moonriders in 1996. I subtitled it into English because I like it enough to do something like that As pointed out: 1. The lyrics were written by Itoi, and Itoi stars in the video 2. The music is done by the Moonriders, which is Keiichi Suzuki’s band, Keiichi Suzuki...Read More »
