EarthBound at E3 1995

Some years ago while trying to dig up old and lost EarthBound-related videos, I decided to see if I could find anything from E3 1995, where EarthBound was shown off. I didn’t find much, just a single video that showed a super-quick shot of an EarthBound display at the event. I forgot about it until Juanito reminded me of it recently. Here it is:

Note: If that video ever dies or whatever, here’s a screenshot of the EarthBound display, I wonder where it is now…

EarthBound’s E3 appearance is also briefly mentioned on this old page from 1995.

There’s gotta be more than that, though, right? Does anyone know of any other E3 1995 videos or magazine articles or anything that mention or show anything about EarthBound? I’d think Nintendo Power had something, but I don’t have those old issues anymore. It seems like the game flew under everyone’s radars back then, I’m guessing it was overshadowed by the Virtual Boy and/or N64.

Itoi-Signed MOTHER 1+2 for Sale!

Last week I posted some neat MOTHER 2-related swag on eBay, and this week I’m listing something even more epic: a copy of MOTHER 1+2 signed by none other than MOTHER/EarthBound series creator Shigesato Itoi himself!

I’m also including a bunch of other really rare items from the official MOTHER 1+2 event held in 2003, check it all out here!

Here’s Itoi signing boxes prior to the event – as far as I know this is the only one that’s ever been made available outside of Japan.

That reminds me that someday I really need to sit down and subtitle the whole talk show portion of the event. Most of the cool info is in the video above, though.

EarthBound Completed in 9 Minutes

pirohiko has been constantly trying to improve the TAS record for EarthBound – this time we see the game being completed in 9 minutes and 1 second!

I kinda want to see someone try this on a real console – it’d require an absolute ton of luck but I think it’d be awesome to see some crazy kid with a Power Glove on (or maybe someone wearing the MOTHER 2 jacket) pull off this stuff like it’s nothing

The troll-o-meter is definitely off the charts, but then again you never know…

For what it’s worth, I think EarthBound has many flaws and it probably isn’t even my favorite game of all time – and I assume that’s probably the same for most folks here. Is that the case for you, the person behind the keyboard?

EarthBound Shark Gang Glitch

I stumbled upon this EarthBound video randomly the other day:

I don’t know why, but I like little glitches like this in EarthBound. I don’t think I’ve ever had this sort of thing happen to me, but I wonder if it’s common in other parts of the game too, or even in MOTHER 3. Anyone else run into this kind of thing?

Avoiding the Fourside Blackout

earthdyedred recently shared something he found – if you hug the bottom area of the first floor of the Fourside Department Store, you can leave the building without triggering the blackout event where Paula gets kidnapped. Here’s a video of it:

Of course, you still need to trigger it at some point to continue with the story, but if you find yourself in there sometime but want to leave for whatever reason (like reorganizing items or getting other stuff in order), now you can!

I actually think this might be old news to some folks (I seem to have a very vague memory of it myself, but that could just be old man stink) but it’s still nice to know nonetheless. Especially since that particular part of the game seems to be tough for newcomers.

Happy Video Game Nerd Talks EarthBound Again

Many years ago the Happy Video Game Nerd posted a really cool and in-depth video about EarthBound. He recently revised it and added lots more info – grab a sandwich or something and check it out here or check it out below!

It was actually when I was writing an e-mail to him yesterday that I remembered that weird MOTHER 3 e-mail from 2008. I guess maybe he can add that to his next revision in a few years – or maybe Roo can update his EarthBound videos next

Prof. Sakamoto MOTHER Medley

I can’t remember if I’ve posted about this or not before, but just in case I haven’t, check out this great piano medley by the famous Prof. Sakamoto:

What’s cool about this is that he’s become famous enough in Japan that he’s even done stuff with Shigesato Itoi’s company. Here’s a page about a live recital he did for Itoi’s site and here’s an album that Itoi’s site helped promote.

Kinda makes me wanna stick an NES top loader on my head when I work…

EarthBound Video Props

Many readers here probably know xfis very well – if not, he’s done many great EarthBound things, one of which is is “/earthbound” series of videos, see here.

Well, he recently cleaned out his place and found a bunch of old props he used for his EarthBound video adventures!

The EarthBound stuff starts around 46 seconds in. I bet some people would love to have those props, now that I think about it. I’m sad the Runaway Dog and Coil Snake never got used though…
