Once again the flood of Itoi interview translation continues as Chewy blasts through her NaNoTraMo stuff! This time we’re treated to an interview in the January 31, 1997 issue of Famitsu. In it, Shigesato Itoi and Satoru Iwata discuss stuff from the ill-fated Nintendo 64 version of MOTHER 3. Here’s an excerpt: Nagata Moving on, what’s the deal with the battles that Itoi’s always ra...Read More »

I know KeijiDragon’s been working on a project called “Shat-Canned Legends: MOTHER 3 / EarthBound 64″ for a long while now, but I could’ve sworn I updated about it before. I guess not, so my many apologies both to Keiji and to all the fans, since this is some quality stuff! Update: KeijiDragon has taken the video down, you can read why in the comments here. We’ve seen comparisons of the N64 MOTHER 3 and the GBA MOTHER 3 before, but here’s a little video that takes a closer look, including a lot of the characters. It’s nothing new if you’re a hardcore fan, but it’s still pretty neat! If you haven’t seen many of the N64 screens and such before, I collected as many as possible a few years ago here. PoeTrader also org...Read More »

A few months ago the guys at 64DD.net scanned the booklet that was handed out at Space World 99. This was the same event where a playable demo of MOTHER 3 / EarthBound 64 was available, so there’s some related stuff in this booklet too. Here’s the main page for the game: This is basically (though not 100%) the same as what Nintendo had for the official site, which you can see here. I ...Read More »

Apparently the July 2011 issue of Official Nintendo Magazine of Australia has some little blurbs about EarthBound and the MOTHER games: (click for full size) Nothing much, but it’s always nice to see mentions in magazines. Even if they all use the same handful of screenshots every time (like this phenomenon) Is “fashion” really spelled like “fasion” in Australia, t...Read More »

OmniM sent me this the other day, it’s another magazine article discussing EarthBound 64. It’s surprising how many game magazines there were out there covering EB64 – most of the info is all just recycled between magazines but it sure got a lot of coverage worldwide! Anyway, here’s what OmniM had to say: Hello, I am OmniM and got a magazine scan about EarthBound 64. It is i...Read More »

A little while back Gabriel sent this in: I’ve scanned an article from an old magazine I had, it’s Club Nintendo from latin america (official magazine, it’s like the Nintendo power here). it’s from october 1999, from the Space world 99 event. I’m from Argentina, by the way. Thought it might be interesting for you to read what magazines over here said about Mother 3 at...Read More »

Last year, we happened to find EarthBound 64′s enemy designer on Twitter, Toshinao Aoki. Chewy was kind enough to contact him about answering some interview questions so we could get some more insight about the game. I also put up a post asking for question suggestions from fans here, though the majority of the suggestions were questions that the mere enemy designer wouldn’t be able to...Read More »

Pippo sent this in a little while ago: Hi, Mister Tomato! Here are 12 scans from N64 Magazine, which was a UK mag from the late 90s/early 00s. They’re all previews and gossip for Mother 3, naturally, except for a scan of a competition where readers had to send in US-related items to win an N64. Note the Mach Pizza air freshener! You can see all the scans here: #gallery-2 { margin:...Read More »

Some years ago, maybe a few months after MOTHER 3 was released in Japan, a fellow by the name of Brendan Sechter approached me and Reid about working together to get a license to translate and sell MOTHER 3 in English. It was kind of cool, because he had actually helped out with the game’s development in a small fashion – he’s even listed in the credits! Sadly, that plan fizzled ...Read More »
