I agree that paying off that massive debt is definitely a good reason. They probably weould have had Ness working too, if he weren’t like, saving the world and stuff.

It´s quite simple in fact…

Since her Dad only gives thousands and thousands of money to Ness, he didn´t send money to her mother to maintain the family, And since her Mom is busy making steaks for Ness she has to work to gain money for the house…

Only for her Mom to spend in in another steak for Ness…
